Axon to Host Five-Day Entrepreneurship Build Sprint for Global Entrepreneurship Week 2026
From 16 to 20 November 2026, Axon FS Knowledge Hub will convene a screened cohort of township and rural founders for a five-day build sprint across Johannesburg, culminating in a live pitch challenge before a panel of funders and operators.
Axon FS Knowledge Hub will host its first Global Entrepreneurship Week programme from 16 to 20 November 2026. The programme is a five-day build sprint for founders operating in Johannesburg's township and rural economies, delivered with the organisation's academic partner, The Da Vinci Institute for Technology Management.
Global Entrepreneurship Week is an annual international programme coordinated across more than 200 countries. It brings together founders, funders, and institutions in support of enterprise development. Axon's 2026 programme joins this network with a screened cohort and a practitioner-led curriculum, focused on a single theme: technology adoption in the township economy.
What the Programme Is
The programme is not a conference. It is not a seminar. It is a five-day working sprint in which a small, screened cohort of founders rebuilds their business model with structured mentor support, and pitches the result live before a panel of funders, operators, and industry practitioners.
The programme runs over five consecutive days. It combines structured diagnostics, mentorship, applied problem-solving, and a live pitch session. Founders work with practitioners drawn from financial services, technology, retail, logistics, and agriculture. The cohort is deliberately limited so that each founder receives focused mentor time.
Who Attends
Admission is by invitation following a screening process. The Expression of Interest form is the first step. Shortlisted applicants are invited to interview. Final selection is confirmed in October 2026.
The programme prioritises founders operating in townships and rural corridors — with a focus on businesses that have demonstrated early traction, a clear market, and an appetite for growth. Founders retain full ownership of their ventures throughout the programme.
What Participants Gain
Founders leave the programme with a rebuilt business model, a tested pitch, direct introductions to funders and partners, and — for selected ventures — a place in the Axon incubation programme. The incubation track is a six-month structured engagement that runs after GEW and connects participants to further mentorship, capital pathways, and the Axon vendor ecosystem.
Participants also become part of the Axon Alumni Network, which connects graduates of all Axon programmes — fellows, entrepreneurs, learners, and educators — to one another for the long term.
What Corporate Partners Gain
Corporate partners gain visibility into a vetted pipeline of township and rural ventures, with recognition under B-BBEE Skills Development and Enterprise and Supplier Development. Axon is a Section 18A approved Public Benefit Organisation, and donations to the organisation qualify for tax deduction.
Partners can also align programme themes with their strategic priorities — sponsoring a specific sector track, providing mentors from within their organisations, or providing prizes, capital, or incubation support to selected ventures.

Why It Matters
The programme is aligned to the National Development Plan 2030. Chapter 3 of the NDP calls for the growth of small business and the township and rural economy as engines of job creation. Chapter 9 demands the expansion of skills development and innovation capability. Chapter 13 requires a capable and developmental state, built through people who understand how institutions work.
Axon's Global Entrepreneurship Week programme is designed to contribute to all three. Founders who complete the sprint leave with sharper business models, stronger pitches, and clearer pathways to capital and markets. The programme also produces data and research outputs that feed back into the next cohort, the next programme, and the evidence base that corporate funders rely on.
What Comes Next
Axon is finalising cohort selection, venue confirmation, and partner engagement through September and October 2026. Expressions of interest are now open. Corporate partners interested in sponsoring a sector track, providing mentors, or supporting the pitch challenge prizes should contact the executive office directly.
The next edition of the programme will open applications in early 2027.
