Advanced Programme Maths & Science
Early Grade 10 intake into a rigorous AP curriculum for high-potential learners.
Advanced Programme (AP) Mathematics and Science is designed for learners who demonstrate exceptional academic potential in mathematics and the physical sciences. Axon identifies these learners early — in Grade 10 — and places them on an accelerated pathway that goes beyond the standard NSC curriculum.
Minimum academic requirements:
- Grade 9 final mark of 80% or higher in Mathematics
- Grade 9 final mark of 75% or higher in Natural Sciences
- Recommendation from the school's Mathematics or Science department
- Successful completion of the Axon diagnostic assessment
- Commitment to the full three-year programme (Grades 10–12)
Learners who complete the programme sit for the AP Mathematics and AP Science examinations in addition to their NSC papers, positioning them competitively for university admission in engineering, actuarial science, computer science, and the physical sciences.
Grade 11 STEM Olympiad
A national multi-stage assessment of high-order mathematical and scientific reasoning in Grade 11.
The Axon STEM Olympiad is an academically rigorous competition designed to identify, assess, and advance the country's most capable Grade 11 learners in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. It is structured as a three-stage diagnostic sequence, each stage calibrated to progressively higher levels of cognitive demand.
Academic rationale: The Olympiad measures abstract reasoning, multi-step problem decomposition, and conceptual transfer — the cognitive domains most strongly correlated with success in engineering, actuarial science, and the quantitative sciences at university level.
Eligibility criteria:
- Enrolment in Grade 11 during the 2027 academic year
- Grade 10 final assessment: minimum 75% in Mathematics
- Grade 10 final assessment: minimum 70% in Physical Sciences
- Nomination by a Mathematics or Physical Sciences educator
- Availability for all three assessment stages
Assessment architecture: Stage One is a mass diagnostic MCQ instrument administered across all partner schools, designed to map conceptual gaps rather than merely rank candidates. Stage Two is a decentralised cluster assessment comprising free-response and structured-reasoning items. Stage Three is a centralised terminal assessment hosted at a designated academic venue, evaluated by a panel of senior markers drawn from partner institutions. Results are reported to schools as diagnostic feedback for curriculum planning in addition to individual candidate rankings.
Academic outcomes: Top performers are eligible for referral to partner university bursary programmes, admission to the Axon Fellowship pathway, and entry into the national Axon STEM Honours Register — a growing academic network of high-potential scholars in the quantitative sciences.
NSC Maths & Science Exam Readiness
Preparing Grade 12 learners to enter their final examinations with confidence.
The Axon NSC Mathematics and Physical Science Exam Readiness Programme is an intensive Grade 12 intervention designed to close the gap between continuous assessment and final examination performance. Learners work through past papers, targeted revision modules, and structured exam technique training under the guidance of experienced educators.
Programme structure:
- Weekly revision sessions across Terms 1 to 4
- Intensive holiday bootcamps in March, June, and September
- Full mock examination cycles with diagnostic feedback
- Individualised weak-area remediation
- Exam technique, time management, and anxiety management training
- Direct support for university applications and NSFAS submissions
Open to Grade 12 learners in partner schools who are committed to achieving a university entrance pass in Mathematics and Physical Science. The programme is designed to lift borderline learners into university admission and to sharpen high achievers toward distinction-level results.
